Incident
Three children were killed and two others wounded on Friday when a landmine, left behind by the ousted regime, detonated inside an abandoned school in the town of al-Habit in southern Idlib countryside. Ziad Harkoush, Director of Emergency and Disaster Management in Idlib, said ambulance teams responded immediately and transported the injured to nearby medical centers. A source at the Hama Health Directorate reported that one of the two children taken to al‑Suqaylabiyah Hospital died on arrival, while the other is receiving treatment prior to transfer to Hama National Hospital.
Aftermath and warnings
Local authorities urged residents to warn children about the dangers of unexploded ordnance and to avoid suspected contaminated sites until specialized demining teams complete clearance. Officials reiterated that landmines and other remnants of war left across many areas of Syria continue to cause deadly accidents, severe injuries and disruptions to agriculture, livelihoods and returns of displaced people, as reported by SANA
