Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said relations with Syria have reached their highest levels across political, security, military and economic fields. Speaking on Al-Mamlaka TV, Safadi described a recent meeting in Damascus with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Jordan’s chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the head of General Intelligence as part of a strategic dialogue. The talks focused on cross-border threats — including drug and weapons smuggling — and on joint efforts to counter ISIS and other terrorist groups, while exploring mechanisms to deepen economic cooperation.
Safadi added that Syria is entering a critical phase of reconstruction and that Jordan will support Damascus “within available capabilities,” following directives from King Abdullah II, stressing that Syrian stability directly affects Jordan and the region. He also reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of Israeli strikes on Syrian territory. Earlier the same day, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani spoke by phone with Safadi to discuss regional developments, security issues and Arab coordination, as reported by SANA
