Israeli raid on Beit Jinn kills at least 13, including children
Overview
Israeli forces carried out an overnight raid on the village of Beit Jinn, on the edge of the occupied Golan Heights, that state media said left at least 13 people dead, including children. Syrian news agency SANA reported residents "confronted" Israeli troops, leading to a firefight and air strikes, and the Syrian foreign ministry condemned the action as a war crime. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said troops entered to detain members of the Jamaa Islamiya group it accused of plotting attacks on Israeli civilians; the IDF said several suspects were apprehended, a number of militants were killed, and six Israeli soldiers were wounded, three seriously.
Footage released by the IDF showed air strikes and bodycam video of night-time exchanges, while the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a building collapsed during the operation. A local hospital reported multiple bodies and dozens injured, including several from the same family. The incident highlights ongoing Israeli operations in southern Syria and tensions over deployments on the Golan buffer zone that the UN has said breach the ceasefire arrangements; Damascus has called on the UN Security Council to intervene. as reported by BBC
