Incident

Israeli occupation troops entered the village of Maariyah in the Yarmouk Basin of western Daraa on Friday, advancing in seven vehicles from the Al-Jazeera barracks. The force established a temporary checkpoint east of the village mosque for about half an hour, searched several nearby homes and stopped and interrogated a number of passersby before withdrawing back toward the Al-Jazeera barracks.

Context and reaction

Syria says such incursions form part of near-daily violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement that include raids, arrests, land bulldozing and shelling across the south. Damascus demands the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory, declares these actions legally void, and calls on the international community to act to deter and reverse the incursions, as reported by SANA
