Mansoura detained and under investigation
Syria’s Internal Security Forces arrested former Maj. Gen. Muhammad Mansoura in Jableh, Latakia, and transferred him to Damascus to complete an official investigation. Authorities have opened formal inquiries and said they are prepared to receive complaints or legal claims against him. Mansoura, born in 1950 from Ain Qubiya in Latakia, served as head of the Political Security Directorate from 2005 to 2016 and previously held senior intelligence posts in Qamishli and Damascus, including roles as head of the military intelligence branch in the Jazira region and head of the Palestine branch.
Reports tie Mansoura to allegations of arms smuggling, corruption and links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its Syrian extensions, and note his past involvement in managing Arab‑Kurdish relations in Qamishli. He has not publicly responded to the accusations. The arrest comes amid growing domestic demands for transitional justice and accountability for abuses by the former security apparatus following the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime in late 2024, as part of wider efforts to investigate, prosecute and document past violations, as reported by Jerusalem Post
