On May 20, 2026, Damascus University and the Saïd Foundation signed two cooperation agreements to establish a fully digital university library at the Baramkeh campus and an artificial intelligence center at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering. The projects aim to support scientific research, modernize the academic environment, and provide students and researchers with access to leading global academic databases and AI-driven research tools. University officials said the library will rely entirely on digital content and include AI-powered systems to help locate and analyze information, while the AI center will offer training and research support in machine learning, data analysis, natural language processing and computer vision for students across informatics, engineering, medical sciences and the humanities.

Damascus University President Mustafa Saem al-Dahr described the initiatives as long-planned upgrades now moving into technical studies and implementation, with preparatory work already underway and a phased rollout expected over roughly two years. Assistant Minister Abdul Hamid al-Khaled framed the agreements as part of broader efforts to update curricula and infrastructure, and university officials said the projects — funded as a substantial grant from Wafic Saïd via the non-profit Saïd Foundation — will be free for students and faculty. Detailed technical and financial plans are being finalized and costs will be announced once executive plans are approved, as reported by Enab Baladi
